Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD vs Ford F-250 Super Duty: Chevy's Best Yet

The 2021 Silverado 2500 HD is ready when you need a serious work truck for virtually any job, including hauling, towing, transporting, and more. With two powerful engines that offer more than some of its competitors' standard engines—including the Ford F-250 Super Duty—you can have a peace of mind that the 2500 will handle more jobs that you throw at it.

Here, we compare the Silverado 2500 HD to the Ford F-250 Super Duty.

The Chevy Silverado 2500 HD offers better power out of the gate

The Silverado 2500 HD features two engine options. The first is a 6.6-litre eight-cylinder gas engine that generates 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. The other is a 6.6-litre Duramax Turbo-Diesel eight-cylinder engine. It produces 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. The Duramax also features a standard engine block heater, winter grille cover, and a pairing with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The Ford F-250 Super Duty's standard engine is a 6.2-litre eight-cylinder engine that produces 385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. That isn't quite the output of the Silverado 2500 HD's options. You will have to upgrade to access the Super Duty's other engines that are more on par with the HD.

When any pickup truck buyer upgrades to a higher level of pickup such as the 2500 HD or competitor 'equivalent', factors such as payload become even more important. Compared to the Ford F-250 Super Duty, Silverado 2500 HD 4x4 models have more payload capability (up to 3,376 kg) in many important configurations. The Ford has a payload advantage in several 4x2 models, but the 4x4 is the most popular option at this level of pickup truck.

The Silverado 2500 HD flashes better technologies

Technology is becoming more and more important in a work truck. And the Silverado 2500 HD is ahead of the game.

With available features like the 15 unique camera views along with brand new unique technologies like the Trailer Length Indicator, the Jack-Knife Alert, the Cargo Bed View enhancement, the Rear Trailer View that now features guidelines and Trailer-Angle Indicator and the Rear Side View available while driving forward and in Reverse complemented by the multifunction tailgate that offers multiple configurations, the Silverado 2500HD offers many more possibilities than the Ford Super Duty.
