Three New Features on the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Just when many thought it couldn't get any better with the release of its latest generation, the Silverado makes some new improvements to keep it ahead of the pack. New features and enhancements make the 2021 model year better in trailering capacity, functionality, safety and much more. Here, we highlight some of these exciting features.

The available Multi-Flex Tailgate increases functionality

This new feature provides six functions that increase bed access and loading solutions and provides a special standing workstation. This sturdy tailgate holds up to 375 lb, giving you a peace of mind that it won't budge if you step on it with equipment or gear. It's also advanced and configurable using a key fob or two buttons mounted on the tailgate itself.

The Silverado Durabed also combines with the Multi-Flex Tailgate to make the 2021 Silverado 1500 one of the must functional in its class.

More trailering power in the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado

The 2.7-litre turbo and 3.0-litre Duramax both significantly increase trailering capacity. With the 2.7-litre option, the Crew Cab Short Box adds 2500 lb of towing power in 2WD. The new Regular Cab Long Box rates at 9600 lb and increases the overall payload of the Silverado to 2280 pounds in 2WD. Models with the 3.0-litre Duramax increase trailering capacity by 1900 lb in most configurations and boost maximum capacity to 9500 lb in 2WD models.

Trailering system improvements in the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado

The Silverado recently introduced a new, industry-leading trailering system with up to 15 unique camera views. Now, Chevrolet makes available new and enhanced technology for 2021.

The new Trailer Length Indicator appears on the centre console screen when changing lanes with the turn signal activated. The red overlay helps show when other vehicles are present within twice the length of the compatible trailer.

To help prevent jack-knife accidents, the Jack-Knife Alert monitors the position of the compatible trailer. If it senses the vehicle and trailer are in a compromising position, it emits an alert.

Silverado drivers who transport gooseneck/fifth-wheel trailers now have a Cargo Bed Zoom View and Bed Hitch Guidance technologies that assist in lining up these types of trainlers.
