A glimpse of the future with the Cadillac Lyriq

Like many other manufacturers, Cadillac is preparing a future for us that will revolve around electrification and efficient performance. At the heart of Cadillac’s EV mission are a series of new vehicles that will not use a combustion engine, including the new SUV Lyriq, are expected to emerge.


In the case of the new Cadillac Lyriq which was unveiled earlier this month, we are talking about a debut in 2022 as a 2023 model, but in order to set the table, Cadillac proceeded to its unveiling online recently, so we have a very good idea of ​​what will await us with this revolutionary product.


Dedicated platform for the new Cadillac Lyriq


First of all, it's interesting to know that the Lyriq will be the first General Motors (GM) model to take advantage of the BEV3 platform, the company's third to be dedicated to electrical products. Better still, the Lyriq will act as a pioneer with the new Ultium battery put forward by GM. The latter carries 800-volt technology and will be able to accommodate recharging on systems up to 350 kWh. In the case of Lyriq, the maximum capacity in this regard will be 150 kWh.


As for the configuration of the vehicle, we will be entitled to a rear-wheel drive version, as well as one with all-wheel drive, this one claiming to be the most efficient variant. As for the range, it promises to be very interesting with a maximum capacity of 480 kilometers. The same could be said of the ride, as the vehicle's configuration promises us perfect weight distribution, 50-50 front to rear.


On board, we are offered a foray into the future with a 33-inch LED screen in front of the driver. The latter, curved, can be divided to provide instrumentation and all controls for the multimedia system, as well as images from the cameras that the vehicle will carry. According to Cadillac, the pixel density will be the highest and most impressive in the industry with a billion colors possible. This is 64 times higher than what is currently offered elsewhere.


Finally, aesthetically, Cadillac is also using the Lyriq to show what its upcoming electrical products will look like. The style is a perfect blend of a look to the future, but also a nod to the past with apparent vertical signatures, both front and back.


Once the Lyriq launches, we'll be entitled to at least three more products, as GM's luxury division has already reserved the names of these at the US Individual Property Registry. That means that we can expect Celestiq, Optiq and Symboliq models.


The Cadillac legend will continue… quietly.
