Some tips for preparing your electric vehicle for winter

Even though the warmer temperatures of the past few days make it seem as if winter is still far away, Quebeckers know colder temperatures are on the way. Already in the morning you can feel it, it is cooler, and some regions have already seen weather below 0 degrees.

In short, we have to be ready, especially with our vehicle. One, we'll be able to avoid the rush of the next few months for tire changes and two, we'll be ready if ever a storm or cold weather suddenly hits.

The good news is that an electric vehicle doesn't require any different preparation than a gasoline-powered vehicle for winter. You also don't have to do any maintenance like an oil change or anything else, because as you know your Bolt saves you that hassle. That said, you can still install your winter tires, change the wipers, and prepare a winter kit.

Install winter tires

The beginning of October is not a bad time to get your winter tires installed. For starters, the nights are cooler, and the outside temperature can drop below 7 degrees in the morning and evening. It is at this temperature that it becomes dangerous to drive with summer tires. So, getting your winter tires installed sooner rather than later is a good way to avoid getting caught if the weather suddenly drops.

Change your windshield wipers

It's a simple way to prepare for winter, but one that is very effective. Your original wipers aren't necessarily winter-friendly, but you can replace them for winter with specially designed wipers and enjoy better visibility. You can also already plan a few litres of windshield washer fluid so that you always have some with you in the car or in the garage. Visibility is always a bit precarious in winter, so it's good to be prepared.

You can also prepare an emergency kit should you ever get caught in your vehicle during a storm. This set should include a blanket, items to warm your feet and hands, a first-aid kit, and a charger for your cellphone.

With its lower center of gravity, the weight of the battery, and abundant torque, the Chevrolet Bolt is a car that performs very well in winter. It will impress you even more with quality tires and the right set of wiper blades!
