Some tips for a successful road trip in a Chevrolet Bolt this summer

Are you a new owner or interested in the Chevrolet Bolt, but are worried that you can't do a road trip behind the wheel because of its electric setup.

Here are some ideas and tips that may reassure you, but also make you want to hit the road with your Bolt.

1 – Plan accordingly

With an electric vehicle, you can reach the destination you want, but you have to plan differently. The Bolt’s range, established at 417 km, requires planning so it never falls flat. The first step of the road trip therefore requires the choice of a route that allows you to always benefit from a charging station.

2 - Take your time

If you set your comfort zone at 350 km per day so you don't have to worry about running out of range, why not plan a trip where you don't cover more than that distance each day? Thus, the objective is to plan activities and places to visit within this limit. You will have more time to do these while your vehicle can be recharged at night.

3 - The weight

Weight is the number one enemy of the range that an electric vehicle can provide. Consequently, think about reducing as much as possible the weight of the personal effects that you plan to bring so as not to see your range reduced. Also, avoid adding any luggage on the roof. Wind resistance can seriously affect range.

4 - Have a plan B

For each of the stops planned for recharging or for an overnight stay (or both), plan a plan B for the next day in case this is not possible for one reason or another.

5 - Secondary roads

The range of an electric vehicle varies depending on the type of road you travel. On the highway, the latter tends to be less because you go full blast. On the other hand, on country roads where we cross many villages, it is possible to enjoy more range and even exceed what is offered to us by the vehicle thanks to regeneration, especially when braking. A trip in a Bolt EV is an opportunity to see the province differently.
