Five tips to get your Chevrolet vehicle ready this fall

When it's time to prepare your vehicle for the fall and winter, any advice that will improve its condition or your safety is appropriate. Here are five that should not be overlooked.

  1. Check your antifreeze

Your vehicle's antifreeze keeps the water in your radiator from freezing, which would prevent the system from keeping the engine cool. Make sure it is at the right level and that the water/antifreeze fluid mixture is adequate. To be sure, it's a good idea to check with a Chevrolet technician. Also, be aware that it is recommended to change the antifreeze fluid every two years. When was the last time it was changed?

  1. Inspect your tires

To stay safe on potentially wet or icy roads, check the condition of your winter tires to make sure the tread is not too worn. A deep tread gives you good traction in all conditions. If wear is visible, it's time to replace the tires.

  1. Test your brakes

Your brakes must be up to the task at all times, but this is even more the case in winter driving conditions, whether you find yourself in ice, sleet or snow. Also, does your ABS system work well? We don't usually get a chance to check it in the summer. Therefore, have it inspected before winter.

  1. Check your battery

Cold temperatures can affect your vehicle's battery more quickly. It is therefore preferable that a mechanic perform an examination to ensure that it can withstand temperature drops for several months. Neglect can be annoying here. If it is recent, you can check the condition of the cables and poles yourself to make sure that no residue has accumulated.

  1. Inspect your windshield wipers and washer fluid.

Cold weather can also affect your wipers. So check them for signs of wear such as cracks and crevices. If they appear worn, have them changed. It is recommended that they be changed every six months. And make sure you have a supply of windshield washer fluid; you know how quickly they disappear in the winter.
